As I sit down to start working on my final project of the summer, I felt it was important to take
all of the things that I have learned in class this summer and apply it to this paper. For my final paper, I have to write a theoretical framework. I began by scheduling writing time for this weekend. I took into account my ideal writing time (9am), all the things I need to get done, and how long I could successfully write. As I sit down to write, I limited my distractions and wrote everything I was thinking (my brain dump). Two hours later, I had the foundation of a good theoretical framework. The next day, as I began to write again, I challenged myself to think about how I could view my framework and writing with a critical lens. How could I use critical theory in developing my framework?
To be honest, I am unsure if I did this correctly, writing a theoretical framework and using critical theory as a lens. Writing a theoretical framework is challenging. I had to look at several examples before I started writing. Each one I read was written differently. There was no way that I could write about the topic for my framework the way Nolan did in her papers! So, I gave it a solid attempt. I wish I had more time to work on it, however with work and other obligations, that isn’t realistic. Three and a half hours later, I finished my theoretical framework. I am unsure if I successfully accomplished all that I aimed to accomplish, but never the less I have a framework.
Last blog of the summer! I am so excited that summer classes are almost finished. I finally feel like I can breathe again. As I finish my first year in this phd program, I am reminded of a quote that I felt kept me motivated this year. It has been a challenging year of juggling life, work and classes, but nothing worth having is easily achieved.

Chiquita, I remember the excitement of finishing my first year in the doctoral program - the summer is a well-deserved (and earned) time. I also think that you are in a much better place than where I was that first summer. This course that we just completed would have been extremely helpful to me that first year. One thing I learned over these last few years in the program is that ideas change and one has to be flexible. Best of luck during the process, I look forward to reading your framework.
